WEAVING MANQUEHUA

In this project, financed between 2002 and 2003 for the village of Manquehua, in the region of Coquinho in Chile, a rural community especially animal farming, several investments were carried out, with money donated by AGERMANAMENT S.F. as well as with subsidies obtained from funds provided by the government of Chile. The main investments were these ones:

  • Purchase of six artisan looms
  • Purchase of four weaving threats
  • A course on weaving skills with the participation of 14 people from the village
  • A computer course
  • Purchase and renovation of new premises to install an artisan workshop.

It is worth mentioning that the local institution which received help and has carried out all the activities is the “Centro Cultural y Artesanal Manquehua" (Cultural and Artisan Centre Manquehua).

Nowadays the second stage of the project is in progress, also subsidised by AGERMANAMENT whose objectives are taking advantage of the material and human resources in the first stage through the finance of the first work of textile production in terms of wages and supplies with the idea of obtaining a first stock of clothes and a contracted system of their commercialisation which implies a continuity of the workshop task.
